Course Outline
JIB Gold Card Pathway 4 – Experienced Worker Assessment (EWA)
Pathway 4 is designed for electricians with advanced experience that have built substantial expertise over a longer career. This is a structured pathway to completing your Experienced Worker Assessment (EWA) NVQ and progressing towards becoming a fully qualified electrician — recognised across the industry with the prestigious JIB Gold Card.
It is ideal for experienced electricians with more than five years of commercial and light industrial experience, who are currently employed in a suitable role and want a direct, supported pathway to their JIB Gold Card.
Requirements
There are two eligibility routes into the Experienced Worker Assessment (EWA):
Route 1: 5 Year Experience Path
- Minimum of 5 years’ industry experience in commercial and light industrial electrical work.
- Hold a Level 2 qualification in Electrical Installation that appears on the predefined list set by T-ESP (The Electrotechnical Skills Partnership).
- Already hold, or intend to obtain, the BS:7671 Wiring Regulations
- Already hold, or intend to obtain, the City & Guilds 2391-50 Initial Verification qualification or equivalent.
- Currently working in an electrical role that covers the full commercial and industrial scope of work.
Route 2: 10 Year Experience Path
- Minimum of 10 years’ industry experience in commercial and light industrial electrical work.
- Already hold, or intend to obtain, the BS:7671 Wiring Regulations
- Already hold, or intend to obtain, the 2391-50 Initial Verification qualification (or equivalent).
- Currently working in an electrical role that covers the full commercial and industrial scope of work.
- Successfully complete an EWA Entry Test at one of Brian Scaddan’s Premium Training Centres accredited for this assessment.
With our expert assessor guidance, the Experienced Worker Assessment (EWA) process is streamlined, focused, and entirely evidence-based — ensuring that your skills are formally recognised to industry standards, paving the way for your JIB Gold Card.
Before beginning Stage 1, you will complete a Discovery Call and Technical Interview to confirm your eligibility and readiness to proceed.
Stage 1
Experienced Worker Assessment (EWA) NVQ (Performance Stage)
- You will need to complete a Skills Scan and Candidate Background Form. Once we receive these back, we will schedule a 45-minute recorded interview with one of our assessors to confirm your eligibility. Once this has been confirmed by the assessor, you will then be enrolled onto the Experienced Worker Assessment (EWA) NVQ.
- You will receive a Welcome Pack & a Experienced Worker Assessment (EWA) NVQ Performance Pack, providing full guidance and requirements for completing the Experienced Worker Assessment (EWA) NVQ.
- A dedicated assessor to support you in building your ePortfolio, offering expert advice and feedback throughout your Experienced Worker Assessment (EWA) NVQ journey.
It is important to note that you must be employed in a full-time role. This is to ensure that you can gather the necessary workplace evidence for your Experienced Worker Assessment (EWA) NVQ. You must be working in a commercial or light industrial environments to ensure you can cover all required units.
What’s involved in the Experienced Worker Assessment (EWA) NVQ:
- Complete a portfolio of evidence demonstrating your competence in all required areas.
- Provide workplace evidence such as photographs, videos, job specifications, drawings, and installation records.
- Undergo on-site observations by your assessor.
- Participate in professional discussions to confirm your understanding and application of industry standards.
- Demonstrate compliance with BS:7671 Wiring Regulations – You must hold a current City & Guilds BS:7671 Wiring Regulations qualification. If you do not already have this, we can assist you with booking. This qualification must be successfully completed before your NVQ can be signed off.
- Completion window: maximum 18 months, with the flexibility to finish sooner.
Who is involved:
- You – responsible for gathering and submitting all required evidence.
- Your Assessor – guides you through the process, conducts observations, and assesses your portfolio.
- Internal Verifier – ensures all assessment decisions meet awarding body standards.
- Awarding Organisation (EAL) – oversees the final verification and certification process.
Experienced Worker Assessment (EWA) NVQ Unit Overview:

Stage 2 – EAL 1605
AM2E V1.1 End-Point Assessment
The final stage is the AM2-E V1.1 End-Point Assessment, undertaken at an approved NET Services centre. This is a practical and knowledge-based assessment designed to test your occupational competence as an installation electrician.
What’s involved in the AM2-E V1.1:
- A full range of timed practical tasks covering installation, inspection, testing, and fault-finding.
- Verification of your ability to work safely and in compliance with industry regulations.
- An assessment of your understanding and application of electrical science and principles.
Additional Information:
- The AM2-E V1.1 is booked separately and is not included in your Pathway 4 package.
- We can assist with booking your AM2-E assessment at the South-East AM2 Centre (Portsmouth), North-West AM2 Centre (Warrington), or Midlands AM2 Centre (Nottingham)— sister companies offering quicker and more convenient booking options, including a 10% discount on the AM2 cost.
- Successful completion of the AM2-E V1.1 is required before applying for your JIB Gold Card.
Course Duration
Completion Timeline
Stage 1 – 12 Months.
The EAL 1605 Level 3 Diploma in Electrical Installation is designed to be completed over 12 months, during which you will attend structured evening classes and complete all online examinations, practical assessments, and the scientific principles project.
Stage 2 – 18 Months
The EAL 1605 NVQ in Electrical Installation is designed to be completed within a maximum of 18 months. Learners may however finish this stage sooner by gathering and submitting workplace evidence at an accelerated pace.
Stage 3 – 3 Days
The AM2 End-Point Assessment must be booked before the end of the NVQ’s maximum 18-month completion period. The AM2 is a three-day assessment, undertaken at an approved NET Services centre.
