In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment (PAT)
The course will ensure that you are meeting the requirements for carrying out formal visual inspections and tests of electrical equipment. Regulations insist that every item of electrical equipment is tested and certified as being safe to use, in a commercial environment
The course will give you an understanding of the theory and practice of the in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment, commonly referred to as PAT testing (Portable Appliance Testing).
The course follows the industry recognised IET (IEE) Code of Practice published by the Institution of Engineering and Technology. It provides a facility for you to develop and/or enhance your knowledge and skills so you can inspect electrical equipment which is ‘in-service’.

- Inspection and testing of electrical equipment.
- Know how equipment construction and classification reduces the risk of electric shock.
- Statutory and non‐statutory requirements relevant to the management of electrical equipment maintenance.
- Electrical units of measurement associated with in‐service I&T of electrical equipment.
- Understand the procedures for the in service inspection and testing of electrical equipment.
- Understand how to carry out combined inspection and testing.
- Understand the information contained in documentation in‐service inspection and testing of electrical equipment.
- Be able to inspect and test items of electrical equipment.

Eligibility
It is not essential that you work in the electrical industry to complete this course, however it is beneficial to have some basic electrical knowledge. It is expected that you will have the minimum levels of literacy and numeracy.
Learners must be 16 years of age or older.
