Course Outline
What you will learn:
- Statutory requirements for public lighting and street furniture
- Planning public lighting systems
- Means of providing electricity supplies to installations
- Erection of columns, lanterns, and street furniture (not on DNO poles)
- Erection of lanterns or illuminated signs attached to DNO (on LV poles)
- Commissioning, maintenance, repair, and emergency attention
- Avoidance of danger from accidental contact with live conductors
- Roles of competent/skilled persons
- Developments in electrical equipment
- Annex A (normative): clearances between columns and overhead lines
Requirements
Eligibility & Entry Requirements
- Proficiency in literacy and numeracy required
- Must be 18 years of age or older
Course Literature
Course is based on the following publications
- BS:7430:2011 (Code of Practice for Protective Earthing of Electrical Installations)
- ILP GP03 (Code of Practice for Electrical Safety in Highway Electrical Operations)
- ENA TS 43-8 Issue 5 with Amendment 1:2004 (Overhead Line Clearances)
Learners are required to bring their own up-to-date reference books as listed above. These are not provided as part of the course.
