Initial and Periodic Inspection and Testing of Electrical Installations (2391-52)
This Level 3 course helps formalise your knowledge and practical skills to professionally and competently carry out initial verification and periodic inspection & testing on either new or existing electrical installations. It is aimed at practising electricians who have experience in inspection & testing of electrical installations and wish to demonstrate their competency through the achievement of a recognised qualification, or who may require proof of competency for CPS status.
Although the course has no entry requirements, it is recommended that candidates have adequate experience in inspection & testing. The course not recommended for those with little-to-no experience of inspection & testing of electrical installations, such as those entering the industry from other engineering disciplines or who have been working in allied trades.
It is essential that you have a good understanding of BS7671 IET Wiring Regulations & Guidance Note 3.
A 2391-52 qualification is currently required in order to gain your JIB grading as an approved electrician.
Course Content
This course covers the following topics:
- The safe isolation of electric circuits and installations.
- The requirements for initial verification of electrical installations.
- The requirements for periodic inspection & testing of existing installations.
- The requirements for completing the inspection of electrical installations prior to their being placed into service.
- The requirements in deeming an existing installation is safe for continued use.
- The application of classification codes.
- The requirements for the safe testing and commissioning of electrical installations.
- The verification of results to BS 7671.
- The requirements for the completion of electrical installation certificates, electrical installation condition reports and associated documentation.
- Commissioning electrotechnical systems and equipment.
Delivery
This 5.5-day course is classroom-based. You will be assessed through an online multiple-choice exam, 2 written assessments and a practical assessment. You will typically spend 5 consecutive days in the classroom and return for half a day to complete the practical.
We are able to deliver this as a day, weekend or evening course.
Eligibility
Learners must be over 18 years of age or older.
Proficiency in literacy and numeracy.
You will need to have a good understanding of BS7671 IET Wiring Regulations and Guidance note 3.
It is recommended that you have adequate experience in inspection & testing.
