Part P – Building Regulations (2393-10)
This course is suitable for those with existing practical installation skills wishing to undertake domestic electrical installation work, either for themselves or any person wanting to be a Domestic Electrical Installer and undertake work for a paying customer.
Part P building regs were brought in by the government in 2005 and together with the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 ensure electrical installations in domestic systems were safe and properly installed. Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 state that that anyone doing this work must be competent.
Course Content
The course will cover the following topics:
- The Building Regulations in terms of scope, purpose and structure
- Types of building work
- Relevant approved documents and how building regulations are enforced
- The role of Building Control Services
- Methods of compliance with Approved Document A (Structure) for electrical Installations
- Methods of compliance with Approved Document B (Fire Safety) for electrical installations:
- Methods of compliance with Approved Document E (Resistance to the passage of sound) for electrical installations
- Absorbent materials following installation of equipment
- Methods of compliance with Approved Document F, including Ventilation Extraction rates and the interaction of mechanical extract ventilation and combustion appliances
- Methods of compliance with Approved Document L1 (Conservation of fuel and power) for electrical installations
- Methods of compliance with Approved Document M (Access to, and use of, buildings) for electrical installations
Delivery
This course is classroom-based over 1 day. The qualification is achieved by passing an online multiple choice exam.
We are able to deliver this as a day, weekend or evening course.
Eligibility
It is expected that you will have some practical skills in Domestic Installation.
It is expected that you will have a proficiency in literacy and numeracy.
Learners must be 18 years or older.
