Experienced Worker Assessment (EWA) – Pathway 4

JIB Gold Card Course Imagery

There is now a Domestic NVQ for all those that specialise and practice only in the Domestic sector, that will lead to achieving a JIB Gold Card.

Are you working in the electrical industry and wish to become a qualified electrician?

This NVQ Level 3 is an assessment of your competencies and experience and is an alternative route to gaining your JIB Gold Card. You will be required to gather occupational evidence from the workplace and will be observed and supported by our team of experienced assessors. Your achievement will be based upon existing qualifications, site/work-based assessments and competence. You will need to complete an AM2E to support your JIB Gold Card application.

This qualification is electronically and remotely completed, with no classroom attendance. You will be assigned your own dedicated assessor throughout the duration of this NVQ. This qualification will be assessed through a variety of methods including observations, collecting evidence and discussion.

6 to 18 months

  • Hold a Level 3 Electrical Installation Diploma
  • This qualification is for experienced electricians who have been working in the electrotechnical industry as practising electricians for a minimum of 5 years.
  • Achieved the BS 7671:2018 Wiring Regulations
  • Achieved the Initial Verification
  • Be a minimum of 21 years old

You must have both BS 7671:2018 Wiring Regulations and at very least an Initial Verification (2391-50) qualification or commit to completing this within 90 days of starting the NVQ with us.

If you don’t have your 18th Edition or Initial Verification, get in touch to see how we can help you with this!

The process

  1. Do you meet the eligibility criteria?

If you have the experience, but not the BS: 7671:2018 Wiring Regulations or Initial Verification; that’s fine. We can help you.

  1. We will support you in completing a Candidate Background Form. This is to understand your experience and knowledge. We will use this information in conjunction with any of your qualifications to determine your Recognised Prior Learning (RPL) which forms part of your unique learning journey with us.

(Click here to take you to the TESP website for further information)

  1. You will then have a telephone interview with one of our specialist assessment team to validate your experience and knowledge, look at your current role and to give you a flavour of the experience you will have with us.
  2. Then you are assigned to your assessor and register you on our state-of-the-art ePortfolio that will be your platform for the NVQ.
  3. On completion of your NVQ, you will need to book and achieve an AM2E. We work with AM2 Centres across the UK and so can facilitate this for you.

(Please note: depending on if you have previously done an AM2, you might only have to do 1 or 2 sections to fulfil the new AM2E requirements).

  1. Your NVQ and AM2E will allow you to apply for your JIB Gold Card.
